I love my children more than anything! But—if I’m being honest—sometimes, they also agitated me. And for the longest time, I couldn’t figure out why.

I grew up poor. The kind of poor where my teenage brother handed over his entire paycheck just to help keep the lights on.

In therapy, I had a breakthrough: deep down, I felt like my children were keeping me from making money. Subconsciously, I was always chasing financial security, believing that if I just worked hard enough, I’d finally feel safe.

When I realized this, my heart shattered.

But healing is a beautiful thing. Now, instead of seeing time with my kids as something that takes me away from work, I see it as the greatest investment I could ever make.

The Ginormous Ice Cream Cone

So, instead of constantly working, I play hooky with my kids now! 🤣

Yesterday, we ditched the routine, headed to Wolf Creek for a ski trip, and made a legendary stop at the Malt Shoppe. I’d heard about their ginormous ice cream cones, and, of course, we had to put them to the test.

They did not disappoint. These things were insane—towering, creamy, and delicious. Some of the best soft serve I’ve ever had!

Years ago, I might have skipped moments like these, thinking I had to “earn” my security. Now? I know better. These moments are my wealth.

So if you’re ever in Pagosa Springs, do yourself a favor—stop by the Malt Shoppe. And get the biggest ice cream cone they have (the large for $4). Life’s too short not to.
